A dog without payout odds of 10/1 will pay $10 on a $1 bet if he wins. This dog is not seen as very likely to win, so the odds are greater for this dog. A dog with payout odds of 6:5 would only pay $6 if you risk $5. This second dog is a much safer bet but the lower payout odds don’t offer as much upside.
Place: A place bet is a wager on a single dog taking either first or second place. This bet pays the same whether your dog finishes in first or second place. It’s an easier bet to win, but it comes with slightly lower payout odds than a straight bet.
Show: Same idea as the place bet except it wins if your dog finishes in first, second or third place.
Perfecta / Trifecta / Superfecta: These are three different bets that offer fairly high payouts. In a perfecta, you pick two greyhounds to win 1st and 2nd place in that exact order. In a trifecta, you pick three greyhounds and pick the exact order in which they finish. In a superfecta, you pick four dogs.
Perfectas, trifectas and superfectas are difficult bets to win because you have to predict the exact order of finishing. However, these wagers offer very high payouts. Get one of these wagers right and you’ll be a happy camper.
Quiniela/Quinella: You pick two dogs to finish in first and second place. The two dogs must occupy the first two spots, but it doesn’t matter in which order they finish. Just as long as your picks take number one and two.
Daily Double: This wager is offered at racetracks that have more than one race taking place throughout the day. In a daily double bet, you pick the winner of two different races.
Online Live Betting
Pick 3 and Pick 6: These two wagers are similar to the daily double except they are spread across three races or six races. This is another tough bet to win, but it offers huge payouts.
